Dear Fellow Rotarians and friends,

The festive season is nearly with us and Margaret and I would like to wish you all the best and hope both you and your families enjoy this time together. Our RI President John Kenny and June have sent a similar message to me and asked that I pass it on. I would also like to congratulate everyone on the efforts you have put in so far this year on so many different fronts.

I recently had the pleasure of presenting our outbound youth exchange students with their blazers. I know they will all be great ambassadors for Rotary and thank the committee for their efforts.

Our outbound GSE team are hard at work learning French under the watchful eye of their leader Jim Benson (he is also a student).

As promised on my visits, our Conference Committee has delivered a marvellous program for you for the 16-18th April 2010 at St Mary's for a most affordable cost. Now is the time to go online and register!

Our Leadership and Training Committee have been busy with a two day workshop planning our programs for next year. A successful Rotary Leadership Institute Stage 3 Course has also just been completed.

Early next month our DGE Ian Hutton and Jan leave for San Diego to attend the International Assembly, their final training hurdle before the hard work begins raising the new D9455. We wish them both well and bon voyage.

My goal to introduce that wonderful Rotary Youth Driver Awareness Program is slowly coming closer to fruition. I encourage other clubs to seriously look at this program and help us save more lives on our roads.

Please stay safe over the coming weeks as you recharge yourselves for the next six months of Rotary Challenges.

Regards,

Geoff Simpson

MEDIA NEWSFLASH

PR and Media

At this stage of our Rotary Year we should be very conscious of the need to continue to sell Rotary.
We are all conscious of the decline in membership in Australia and a major reason has been that Rotary has been kept as a secret. It is our job to get out and sell Rotary.

Over the past few months you have been given some ideas that can be used to increase the public’s awareness of the magnificent job that Rotary International is doing to make the world a better place.
This month is Rotary Foundation Month and what a great organization this is to tell the Rotary story.
This is the month to tell the story of Polio Plus.   Let everyone know how Rotary has nearly eradicated Polio from the world. Information is on the Rotary International site so please feel free to make good use of it.

All clubs are sent material to use for this purpose in print or CD format. If you are unable to download material from the Rotary International site please contact the RI office in Parramatta for materials. The Disks HUMANITY IN MOTION are particularly useful to provide some images.

Then you need to spread the word about the Matching Grants that you are involved in. Show the world what you are doing.   The District Simplified Grants also come from the Foundation so tell about them too.
Has your club been involved with Group Study Exchange or an Ambassadorial Scholar. Share the great stories with your neighbours. There is always a great story to tell about Rotary. Have a go. If you tell the stories well I am sure that you will create interest in your club and if people know more about how they can make a difference here and overseas, I am sure that you will get more interest in them joining your club. Then we will be able to do more.

Be prepared to use your local newspaper, your club banners and large club signage and your special club pamphlets to tell YOUR story of ROTARY. Invite special people of influence in your community to your great club meetings.
