Dear Fellow Rotarians and friends,
Welcome to the second half of the Rotary Year. Before last July we made our plans and goals for the year. It is now time to review them and put in place actions to ensure we achieve them. By the end of March I hope you will all be able to say that you have played a part in achieving your club's RI Presidential Citation.
Our membership continues to gradually increase and the number of community and international projects we have been involved in rises; but our Rotary Foundation and Polio Plus pledges remain well below par. The number of disasters faced by the world this year has been large and the latest in Haiti is devastating. You can follow Rotary's involvement at www.rotary.org/haiti along with a number of options to help.
This month is Rotary Awareness month and with the help of a RI PR grant we have ordered 50 banners to be flown with the Perth Club's along the length of St Georges and Adelaide Terrace for 4 weeks a year. Our efforts to put Rotary's name in lights continues to improve and the excellent two page spread on Sustainable Cambodia was a tribute to those efforts and an equally great project.
On Rotary's birthday a major fundraiser for Polio Plus - Paint your Pinkie in Primary Schools will occur Australia-wide. I hope your club will be involved under the coordination of PDG Paul Gianatti.
The NYSF Perth program is in full swing and my encounters with the participants and staff have been eye-opening. Thank you to all Rotarians involved in this excellent program, especially Lucy Brooks and the Heirisson Club for their outstanding efforts.
RYE students are on their way and RYLA is set to start. What a great month to look forward to.
Regards,
Geoff Simpson
